Religion in True Blood

Religion plays a major role in the HBO tv show True Blood. Even the opening credits have religious scenes included into it, such as a church choir singing, an old fashioned baptism in a lake, and a sign reading "God Hates Fangs".

Because the show is set in the deep southern state of Louisiana, where in real life Christians outnumber all other religious peoples by a long-shot, the majority of characters in the series are Christians and the religion is prominent.

I believe the show is neither for or against religion. Rather, I think it tries to focus on how nothing is either black or white. It shows how Christiany has wonderful aspects but can be used in a very negative way. In my opinion, the overall message of the show is that what matters isn't who or what you are, but the whether the choices you make and the way you live your life are based on hatred or on love and acceptance.
