Both Sookie and Adele Stackhouse are examples

Picture
of good, ideal Christian people. They focus on love instead of hate, and on the morals Christianity is supposed to represent.

Gran (Adele) was one of the sweetest, most loving and accepting characters on the show and because she raised Sookie it really rubbed off on her.  Gran has no issue with vampires and even invited vampire Bill to her church. She is fine with other people's beliefs, lifestyles, and pasts.

Sookie feels the same way as her grandmother about most things. She believes in equal rights for vampires, tries to see the good in all people and things. She even falls in love with vampire Bill, and they have a long term relationship.

There are two really good quotes that show the type of person Sookie is religiously. "God doesn't punish, God forgives" and "I don't think Jesus would mind if somebody was a vampire".

On another note, this outlook on their faith could be considered blindly optimistic, particularly when you look at parts of the bible. However, to me the message is that there is good that can come from faith, if you practice correctly and focus on the right aspects. It is mainly because of the way these two characters are presented that I feel this show is not and anti Christian one. They show the positive aspects of religion.

NOTE: There is one other example of the ideal Christian in the show. Hoyt Fortenberry is also a very accepting, loving character. He is Jason Stackhouse's coworker and one of his best friends. When Jason starts talking about the Fellowship of the Sun, Hoyt tries to remind Jason that there is a prefectly good church in Bon Temps that teaches people how to live their lives the right way effectively. Hoyt, like Adele and Sookie, is accepting of vampires and even ends up dating one in the second season.
